Our treatment philosophies for pediatric and teen nutrition counseling stem from a parenting perspective as well as a clinical one. Parents are the greatest support resource for their kids — we help build on that.
The nutritionists at Dr. Daisy Miller and Associates have had extensive specialized training in pediatric nutrition, including the Ellyn Satter Institute, the Maudsley Method, the S.O.S. (Sequential Oral Sensory) method, and Internal Family Systems (IFS).
We welcome a team approach and enjoy collaborating with pediatricians and child and adolescent specialists throughout the Washington, DC metro area. If you need referral suggestions, please let us know and we would be happy to refer you to one of our trusted colleagues.
Concerned about your child's weight? Managing childhood weight is a tricky business; some best-intentioned methods can send children and teens to eating extremes. We teach parents how to communicate hunger and fullness to their kids, institute a better structure for meals and snacks, purchase an optimal variety of food, and encourage physical activity.
Parents: food policing doesn't work and it's no fun for anybody involved. We teach better ways of helping you guide your kids to eat healthily. We focus on long-term, health-driven changes that empower kids and support their self-esteem.
Have you tried everything with your picky eater and nothing seems to work? We can help.
Feeding picky eaters can be challenging, and mealtime battles often result when parents get frustrated. We teach skills to manage kids’ fear of certain foods and expand food preferences. We also work with parents on strengthening the feeding relationship. Peace can happen at family meals — and it's worth the effort!

We enjoy working one-on-one with teens to promote intuitive eating practices, self-directed lifestyle choices, and a healthy level of fitness. We believe in keeping parents appropriately involved and supported.
Have a child or teen with poor body image? Having a poor body image can prevent children and teens from succeeding in many aspects of their lives. We challenge kids' views about societal standards of beauty to fit body expectations that may be unrealistic. We help kids feel comfortable in their unique body, and teach them how they can care for their bodies with love and self-respect.See our special programs for TEENS here.
